We\u2019ve all been there\u2014network failure, loss of connection, the internet browser won\u2019t load. When your network takes an unexpected hiatus during your day-to-day use, it is a frustrating situation. Imagine if your network stopped working while documenting hours\u2019 worth of patient care, or worse, at a critical moment in an emergent situation. The emergence of electronic-based documentation and medical records has streamlined the healthcare industry, but what happens if a technology glitch renders those systems useless?<\/p>\n

With Great Technology Comes Great Responsibility<\/h2>\n

If your healthcare career began before the early 2000\u2019s, you learned patient documentation on a folding paper flow sheet, complete with a legend at the bottom of each page listing the acceptable medical abbreviations, and signature lines for each care provider who documented in that chart to initial and sign.
