SAN JOSE, CA – August 3, 2017 – Allied Telesis, a leading provider of hardware and software products that allow customers to build secure, feature-rich and scalable data exchange solutions, has launched the Allied Telesis UMC200 and UMC2000 USB-to-fiber media converters. With today’s laptop, notebook and tablet designs offering fewer port and connectivity options, attaching these devices directly to fiber networks can present a problem—older USB-A-equipped media converters will not be compatible with new, USB-C-equipped devices.
A simple solution to this USB-to-fiber connectivity issue is to provide both USB-C and USB-A connections within media converters, thus providing both modern connectivity and compatibility with older equipment.
The UMC200/2000 Series offers four converter models, each of which can connect to a fiber segment using either a USB-A or USB-C port:

Each converter features one USB-C port, and one fiber-optic port with an SC, ST or LC connector. The USB-C port is connected to the device using either of the supplied USB-A or USB-C connector cables. Support for the long packet IEEE 802.1Q specification for Virtual LANs (VLANs) makes them perfect for today’s modern networks, where zero packet loss is required.
